[00:00:00] Cheryl: Welcome to Women of the Metaverse. I am Cheryl Laidlaw.

[00:00:08] Angela: I am Angela Harkness. We have been and are still on a journey to discover the Metaverse with 3.0 NFTs and anything that we are required to know to join this world.

[00:00:21] Cheryl: From this podcast, we will help you to unlock how the Metaverse is going to impact your brand, your business, and even your personal life.

[00:00:31] Angela: Join us as we take the mystery out of this new digital universe.

[00:00:39] Cheryl: Welcome to Women of the Metaverse. In this episode, we wanted to talk to you about how you will enjoy your food and drink in the metaverse. We wanted to do this episode because we know from conversations that we’ve had with other women that they are struggling to find how to transition their businesses into the [00:01:00] Metaverse and web.

[00:01:01] Cheryl: Three. We want to talk about the food and drink industry because how do you move something where you need your smell and taste into the metaverse? If this industry can find creative and innovative ways to do them, there maybe you can take some of these ideas and apply them to your own business. And we can’t start this podcast without mentioning one of our favourite brands, wisher Vodka.

[00:01:31] Cheryl: We will leave the link in our show notes. The brand is a perfect example. It is a small business brand and a good one to follow. They created a Metaverse distillery way before the big brands, and they would hold events, and they started to do this even before they sold a physical bottle of vodka.

[00:01:57] Angela: I think this is what stops a lot of.

[00:01:59] Angela: [00:02:00] People, women getting involved in the metaverse cuz they can’t imagine how they can move their business, do their business in the metaverse cuz it’s so virtual and they might have something that’s very physical. So this food and drink is perfect cuz you are like, well if they can, if

[00:02:19] Cheryl: they can, if the food industry can make it, anyone can make it.

[00:02:21] Angela: Right? Yeah. Yeah. They’ve done some really clever things, which is what we are gonna talk about. So Cypriani started with humble beginnings opening the now very famous Harry’s Bar in an abandoned warehouse in Venice in 1931. They have since become a global hospitality brand synonymous with luxury, whether it’s their restaurants, event spaces, or private member’s clubs.

[00:02:51] Angela: In December 2022, they launched Cipriani’s Land. In the sandbox, in the new trendy Galleria [00:03:00] neighbourhood players will be able to walk the streets of Venice and visit Harry’s Bar and come upon the original Bellini. Also being recreated is the Cipriani Wall, wall Street Ballroom, which will play host to events such as fashion shows, concerts, and their famous masquerade balls.

[00:03:23] Cheryl: Yeah, it’s fantastic. I actually hadn’t been to Harry’s Bar or Venice,

[00:03:28] Angela: and I’ve been to Venice, but I was very young when I went to Venice, so I’d love to go.

[00:03:33] Cheryl: So I’m assuming this is where all the MAs masquerade balls were formulated. Yeah.

[00:03:40] Angela: It became a really famous bar for, um, artists and writers to go to, and then it started to become a real luxury.

[00:03:51] Angela: Brand it own. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the facts that they’re joining with Roblox is really inventive. That’s really forwarding and all these like [00:04:00] old brands, we are finding with a lot of the episodes, we are doing all of these kind of OGs in their field. They’re the ones that actually sort of moving forward in all of this.

[00:04:10] Angela: So it, it does show that you can do it. There is a way to do it.

[00:04:16] Cheryl: Well in 2022, Chipotle created the burrito builder in Roblox. Players have the chance to earn burrito bucks by rolling burritos. This is part of what is being called play to earn where players can earn money to buy the physical goods.

[00:04:40] Cheryl: McDonald’s is another company that if you research them carefully are in. Incredible innovative company. They defined the fast food movement and in 2019 they acquired Dynamic Yield, which is an Israeli AI startup [00:05:00] and have subsequently introduced ordering systems that use AI voice recognition across some of its restaurants.

[00:05:09] Cheryl: You’ve probably seen this on TikTok or Instagram Res. It’s incredible. In some of the restaurants, they have experimented with dynamic menu boards using AI to show menus that may suit the weather or time of day. But this episode is focusing on the metaverse and McDonald’s are also making moves here.

[00:05:31] Cheryl: They have filed several patents for the metaverse to open restaurants where you can meet your friends, but also they want to take advantage of the experience of gaming, where at the moment someone has to come out of the game to order their, their plan looks to enable players to be able to order as they play to reduce downtime.

[00:05:55] Cheryl: Of course they wouldn’t wanna have their headsets taken off to then order

[00:05:59] Angela: [00:06:00] McDonald’s. I know from a business technology standpoint, love it morally. I’m like, come on. You know, take five minutes to just come out and order a McDonald’s, but.

[00:06:13] Cheryl: They can make it fun though, couldn’t they? With the whole gamification involved, especially with the burritos.

[00:06:18] Cheryl: Yeah. Looks like they’re doing that.

[00:06:20] Angela: Yeah, I think there’s, I think they’ve filed a lot of patents, McDonald’s, so it’s gonna be really interesting to see. And it was something as a kid, I don’t even know if it’s something they still, I think they do when I, when I’ve been where that’s where you would go if you went into town, you would go to Burger King or Mickey D’s wouldn’t you, with your mates all the time.

[00:06:40] Angela: Yeah. Yeah. So if you are able to do that now, just sat in your room or you’re across the other side of the world and you could go to Mickey D’s with a friend from the other side of the world, but also to be able to order as you play. Also, I

[00:06:58] Cheryl: can imagine [00:07:00] McDonald’s doing the, uh, you know, teaming up with Monopoly.

[00:07:04] Cheryl: And having their Yes, I, no life size monopoly game available where you can go and winberg, yeah. Stuff like that. Order now, I think house.

[00:07:16] Angela: Yes. Yeah, I think that, um, I think it’s just gonna be really inventive that I think you’ll be able to, whether you agree with it or not, there are still ideas that you can pick up from this.

[00:07:28] Angela: So I think that’s the key to this. But it’s not just about fast food or chain brands. Jose Pal, I butchered that. I know Dunno. That’s right. Is Digital Transformation Coordinator at B C C Innovation, which is based at the BAS Culinary Center in Spain. Jose worked on a team in partnership with LB Restaurant to create the first Metaverse dinner.

[00:07:59] Angela: The project [00:08:00] is called Crypto Pintos. The aim being bringing the worlds of blockchains and astronomy together. The project is researching how to bring that experience of dining into the virtual world. How can you extract the same experience of eating in a beautiful restaurant while sitting in your home, maybe dining with a friend who might live on the other side of the world?

[00:08:27] Angela: This is really, that would be incredible. Yes. But how do you get that, you know, in these amazing two, three Michelin style restaurants where they’re from end to end, the service and the wine pairing and everything. How do you kind of create that experience at home? I mean,

[00:08:44] Cheryl: have you heard about the, um, restaurant in London where you can go in and experience.

[00:08:50] Cheryl: Fine dining in the dark.

[00:08:52] Angela: I’ve heard of

[00:08:53] Cheryl: them. Yes. And what I can imagine happening next is you would go into the metaverse and you’d [00:09:00] have your fine dining experience, but it would be super immersive. I mean, I, I, again, this is a step behind what they’re trying to do in your, at the comfort of your

[00:09:08] Angela: own house.

[00:09:09] Angela: So do you mean, do you mean sit in a restaurant and go into the metaverse and have it or? Yes. Yes.

[00:09:14] Cheryl: So obviously the food would come out. I mean, it might be that your waiter would be. A penguin from Mary Poppins or

[00:09:22] Angela: That’s amazing. You know, like completely magic. Or you could, maybe you can choose who your way,

[00:09:28] Cheryl: yeah, you can choose your ex, choose your experience.

[00:09:31] Cheryl: If you want a magic magician or you know,

[00:09:34] Angela: I don’t know, because some restaurants particularly, um, the Fat Duck. They do that. So when they put your food down, they, you might be asked to put on a pair of headphones. So you’re listening to something whilst you create, whilst you eat your food. So it creates, you

[00:09:51] Cheryl: uses markets.

[00:09:52] Cheryl: There’s also another restaurant that, um, there’s the little chef that climbs onto the plate and then creates it in front of you. I, again, I dunno what the restaurants

[00:09:59] Angela: board, [00:10:00] but I wonder how you would do it if you were sat at home and you were, but you were, you were using VR to be in that restaurant.

[00:10:08] Angela: They must have to send the food to you or how

[00:10:11] Cheryl: even do that, Eva? You would have to, um, again, you’d have to collect your own food though. I think that takes away from the restaurant experience.

[00:10:21] Angela: Yeah. But I think that’s what he’s, what Jose is working on is how can you do that? How can you take this fine dining into the metaverse?

[00:10:29] Cheryl: That’d be insane. It’s good that they like

[00:10:32] Angela: love. Yes, yes. I love that they’re experimenting because at least they’re thinking about it and thinking about all the senses. Definitely all areas of the food industry are starting to recognize the power of the metaverse and NFTs. Fortnite have partnered with care for the French hypermarket.

[00:10:51] Angela: They have created healthy map where players have to eat healthy food, gain hit points, and heal their avatars for a healthy boost. The hope is [00:11:00] to educate children on the benefits of eating healthy. One rare. Created food first. A metaverse purely developed to help food brands evolve their businesses in the metaverse with the focus on gamification and Tiger Beer created a virtual street food festival.

[00:11:19] Angela: Malaysians could visit the festival and play games and order foods to their home. It is a great way for street food vendors to expand their reach and not just rely on football. All of those. Brilliant.

[00:11:31] Cheryl: All of those are absolutely fantastic. Uh, I especially love, um, the healthy app, the, the, the healthy map.

[00:11:41] Cheryl: That’s really good. Yeah. I know so many people that still don’t eat vegetables.

[00:11:46] Angela: I’m always shocked, but I love the, I love the street food though as well. I think that’s amazing. Yeah, because sometimes you’ve gotta know about street food vendors to. To go there. That’s authentic. [00:12:00] Absolutely. Yeah. But if you actually can go onto a, an app and go, oh, look, here’s, and like, you know, go into, into the metaverse and just look and see who’s queuing and what’s there, and then get it delivered.

[00:12:13] Angela: I love that. That would be

[00:12:15] Cheryl: good. It is not just about introducing brands into the metaverse. A lot of these companies introduce themselves into the Metaverse, but also will have N F T drops, which enables token owners to have access to secret menus or other types of rewards. In episode 36, we talked about Starbucks Odyssey, which is a evolution of the Starbucks reward card.

[00:12:44] Cheryl: If you run your own business with tangible products or perhaps provide services that you believe would be difficult to transition into the Metaverse, then there are a ton of creative ideas that could help you to find a strategy that would work for your brand. [00:13:00] As always, we recommend that you start slowly.

[00:13:04] Cheryl: You could create your own tokenized reward program or create an N F T collection, and then slowly introduce your business into the world of the metaverse.

[00:13:13] Angela: It is true that the metaverse is still yet to be fully defined, but we have talked before about the technology that surrounds it. It is not going anywhere, so the way in which we experience our lives will change, and there are opportunities that you can take advantage of now and be ready for in the future that can take your brand in inciting directions that you could never have imagined.

[00:13:38] Angela: Remember
