[00:00:00] Cheryl: Welcome to Women of the Metaverse. I am Cheryl

[00:00:08] Angela: Lalor. I am Angela Harkness. We have been and are still on a journey to discover the Metaverse with 3.0 NFTs and anything that we are required to know to join this world

[00:00:20] Cheryl: from. From this podcast, we will help you to unlock how the manifest is going to impact your brand.

[00:00:27] Cheryl: Your business and even your personal life.

[00:00:30] Angela: Join us as we take the mystery out of this new digital universe.

[00:00:39] Cheryl: Welcome to Women of the Metaverse. In this episode, we are going to be talking about the very unique, creative and innovative project. Kathy Hackle is deemed the godmother of the Metaverse. We have spoken about her many times. She’s considered one of the most influential people in the web [00:01:00] three space.

[00:01:01] Cheryl: She’s the founder of the company called Journey, which focuses on Web three and Manifest Strategies, gaming, NFTs, and Virtual Couture. She’s always had a passion for the fashion side of the business and was appointed chair of the 2022 Manifest Fashion Week and was named Horses of Fashion in 2022. So why are we talking about her?

[00:01:28] Angela: Okay, so she has now taken her love and knowledge of fashion and emerging technologies and created a brand called LuxS in its first collection named thrills. Kathy has collaborated with blockchain jewelry designer, Simone Basco. To create a collection of jewelry, which consists of two necklace designs and two bracelet designs, and there will be a hundred necklaces and a hundred bracelets that will be produced.

[00:01:59] Angela: [00:02:00] They wanted to combine the possibilities of high end jewelry and nfcs. So before we talk any more about the collection, we need to explain what nfcs are for those that don’t. Then all will become clear as to what makes this collection unique. So Cheryl, what does N F C mean?

[00:02:22] Cheryl: N F C stands for near field communication.

[00:02:25] Cheryl: If you’ve ever paid for anything using your phone. You will then have used an N F C. The N FFC chip enables communication between your phone and the device you tap it on. It doesn’t require Bluetooth for wifi. In fact, N F C chips are incredibly cheap and you can purchase them off Amazon for 10 to 20 pounds for about 30 of them.

[00:02:51] Cheryl: You can set them up to do all kinds of things, such as setting alarms, check. Tasks enabling people to easily log into your [00:03:00] wifi. I actually saw a video of a woman who was fed up with chasing her husband to check if he’d fed the dog. So she set up an N F C near the dog bowl, so when he fed the dog, he would tap the N F C and the message would immediately be sent to her.

[00:03:17] Cheryl: Telling her that the task was complete. We are going into more detail as to how you can use these in your business or personal life in a bit. But back to Kathy Hack’s new jewelry line. So what makes this jewelry line so special is each piece of jewelry has an N F C chip in it embedded, which is actually a hardware locked smart contract called ha.

[00:03:45] Cheryl: When the chip is scanned, it brings up your authentication certificate, which then sits, sits on the blockchain. So this so

[00:03:55] Angela: is incredible. I just think it’s so creative to do this, [00:04:00] and I think it also shows how much you can have products that you then can add to the blockchain, but asset manage.

[00:04:13] Cheryl: It’s absolute genius.

[00:04:14] Cheryl: I’m not sure because I’m not, I’m not researched yet, but how she’s going to be using it. Oh, no. Is it, is it, is it like a lock it that everything will be stored?

[00:04:27] Angela: In the, I think, I think for this one, it just registers that each individual piece, but actually belongs to you. So it’s a way to say, I genuinely own this piece of jewelry.

[00:04:40] Angela: So if it got stolen, There’s this NFC ship, which we’re gonna explain more about. Okay. In in the rest of the episode, if it gets stolen and somebody scans, it’s like, well, this doesn’t belong to you because on the blockchain it’s said it belongs to this person.

[00:04:55] Cheryl: Now see? I see. Well, the other benefit which will [00:05:00] enable Lux first to connect with its community so that you can send out other offers.

[00:05:05] Cheryl: Again, what like, is this the, the community of a hundred or is you can expand.

[00:05:11] Angela: I guess with, because this is her first collection, she’ll do a lot more and may, I dunno if she’ll incorporate NFC chips or use something else, but it just means that actually on file now she knows who brought it rather than it just being sent out to shops and they haven’t, they can’t.

[00:05:32] Angela: Track a bit now they can keep track a it cuz it’s got that asset tag, the nfc so they can go that they might be the first people who then get the

[00:05:42] Cheryl: offers or anything like that. Yeah. Invited to parties.

[00:05:46] Angela: Yeah. I’m now doing a, I’m now doing a ring or you know, pair of earrings or something like that. Yeah.

[00:05:52] Angela: It’s just a really. I’m coming

[00:05:55] Cheryl: to New York this weekend. Do you, you know, for a conference you’re invited, [00:06:00] that

[00:06:00] Angela: kind of thing. Yeah. It’s your invitation. It’s just really, really smart. Also, a couple of special elements of this line are that, as we talked about, it’s got an N F C and the N F C is actually in case within the jury and therefore cannot be removed.

[00:06:16] Angela: So as we’re talking about if it gets stolen, they won’t be able to open up this N FFC chip and it always. Then is an asset tag if it gets stolen or loss. Also, a nice touch, which is a little special, are the pieces are developed with the concept of time and watchings. But the six, nine and 12 watch hands have been replaced with Roman numerals.

[00:06:41] Angela: Three to reflect the transition from web two to web. The line is due to be released late this year, but according to reports, you may be able to pre-order in late April. So after this podcast has um, gone out, gone out for the, yeah, for [00:07:00] the cost of around $555. What is it with numbers in the, in web three? I dunno.

[00:07:07] Angela: I dunno.

[00:07:09] Cheryl: Our episodes are 33. Yeah, we

[00:07:11] Angela: take eight. Eight, eight. Five, five. I know. Maybe it’s just easier. Bam. This is the price. So K Hack’s Future with Luxe First is to bring passionate technology together, so expect to see more from the brand in all areas of fashion in the coming years. But what does that mean for me, us, and my brand?

[00:07:32] Angela: You may. We’ve loved the idea of N FFC technology and we wanted to go over a few ways in which you can transition this to your life and brand. So give us an idea, Cheryl. Well,

[00:07:48] Cheryl: Angela and I have been discussing this over the past 10 days, uh, because obviously we went out and got our nfc. And I think Angela set our first one up yesterday to tell me more about [00:08:00] that.

[00:08:00] Cheryl: But, um, of course you can simply have it, uh, linking to your website. Which I have actually got one, it’s actually a business card, uh, which is called Vice. And, uh, I, I went to a conference in February and I wanted to make sure that I was gonna go paperless. So I’ve actually got my very first one, but I didn’t realize that was the technology until I, until I researched this episode.

[00:08:29] Cheryl: So you can link back to anything on the. Um, whether it be your link tree or your website, so that’s, that’s a, you know, great idea. Yeah. We’ve

[00:08:38] Angela: actually been using them for a long time, so anybody that’s lived or, or, or been going to London for a long time would’ve had an oyster card and that would just be N F C technologies, just something that you can tap on a device.

[00:08:52] Angela: So we’ve been using it for a really long time. I remember years ago, somebody talking to me about, When iPhones didn’t have N F [00:09:00] C in, are you saying I’m desperate for the new I iPhones come out because I want the N ffc so I can use it to pay, have my card on or pay for things, but it’s, it’s not new technology.

[00:09:11] Angela: I think the way in which it’s being used though is starting to get really creative. So for use yourself. Um, another idea, because they are so cheap, they just come as little circular sticker. That you can just put wherever. So if you run your business from an office or from home, you could have an NFC sticker for each client.

[00:09:34] Angela: So every time you start to do a piece of work for that client, you can just scan the NFC and it will start tracking that time for each client. So it might make it easier or more automated for you if you’ve got several clients on the go, like Cheryl will have. You can track throughout the day how much work you’re doing for each of those clients.

[00:09:53] Angela: So that’s a great way

[00:09:54] Cheryl: to Yeah, I mean, I don’t track my time actually, but a lawyer, this would be great bit of tech for a law [00:10:00] firm and they probably do it already, who knows? But, um, it’s a no-brainer.

[00:10:05] Angela: Yeah, I’d got, one of my clients was very strict about the times that she did for her client. If she did over, she recharged them.

[00:10:12] Angela: So this might be something for her. Um, and again, if several people are working on a client, it’s a great way to kind of, if everybody’s got those N F C chips going into the same system, then that’s a another really good way to do it.

[00:10:29] Cheryl: Definitely. Also, we’ve got automated messages here, so a bit like what The guy with the dog Yeah, we’re sending to his wife.

[00:10:40] Cheryl: Uh, just reminders, making sure people. In the know, as it were. Yeah,

[00:10:47] Angela: I did. When I set mine up, I’ve got this real thing about my back door, not, I don’t remember if I blocked the back door, so I constantly go back and check. I don’t do with anything else, just my [00:11:00] back door. So I’ve set up an NSC sticker. So the, once I’ve locked the back door, I scan it and it sends me a message to say, don’t worry about the back door.

[00:11:10] Angela: You’ve already locked it. So I, when I, because a couple of times I’ve gone to lock, check it again. I’m like, no, I don’t need to. I remember I got my message. That’s how so

[00:11:19] Cheryl: you can leave the house knowing that you’ve done it. Yeah,

[00:11:22] Angela: yeah. So, or I’d go to bed and not think, have I looked at that? So, yeah, that’s, so any automated messages, whether it’s a work message or whether it’s a message at home or automat

[00:11:34] Cheryl: to change it to my straighteners.

[00:11:36] Angela: Yeah, that’s a common one though, I think, isn’t it? Yeah, very. So you can just have a sticker by your straighteners and just when you turn

[00:11:43] Cheryl: them off, I’m gonna have to have my phone with me at all times. Which I probably do anyway. Let’s, yeah. But

[00:11:50] Angela: you know, I think it’s an instant, it’s another step in the process.

[00:11:54] Angela: So I don’t go back and check my phone to go, oh, I just switched it off. [00:12:00] I remember that I got the message cuz the message comes through immediately. So it’s another step in the process where I go, oh yeah, I remembered I got that message. So it, it just adds to it and it doesn’t cost anything. Does. No, it’s just a, it is just a, it is part of the short.

[00:12:16] Angela: If you, on iPhone, it’s part of the shortcuts menu to be able to do it. It’s actually got an N FFC option in there for you to be able to set them up. Okay. Another one. So very similar to. Kathy Hackles jewelry line. If you create a product, it could contain an N F C for asset tracking, so whatever pro product it is, it could be that you create handbag or clothing, or it could be something that goes out in the box.

[00:12:49] Angela: So when somebody. Gets that box like a warranty or just that they wanna, um, register that they have the project product. You could have an N F C [00:13:00] sticker that goes out and you can buy them branded too, so you can get, you know, stickers with your branding on and it could contain whatever information, you know.

[00:13:10] Angela: Welcome to your product. We hope you love it. You know that kind of nice message to get, to encourage people to scan your sticker. Absolutely.

[00:13:20] Cheryl: I mean, there’s some kinds of things you can do with them, like supply tracking.

[00:13:27] Angela: Yeah. So if you keep, if you’ve got loads of products, you can just, it’s a good way to keep, you know, um, track of your supply.

[00:13:35] Angela: What’s supply you’ve got in. I think that asset tracking and supply tracking will be huge on the blockchain and incurring technologies. I think it’s gonna be used a lot.

[00:13:47] Cheryl: Definitely. I mean now at the moment, I just got a package this morning. Then I got an email with a picture of my feet. In the Parum? Yes.

[00:13:54] Cheryl: Behind. Yes. Yeah. Whereas they could e quite as, as easily just set up an any, um, [00:14:00] nfc.

[00:14:01] Angela: Yeah. But even in your home, just tracking certain products, particularly those products that kind of go out of date like carbs and spices. If you wanted to put an N FFC sticker and say, in six months time, give me a reminder, in six months time we’ve still stuck in the cupboard.

[00:14:18] Angela: Then you know, you gotta, yeah.

[00:14:20] Cheryl: Or interesting to, to know how creative you’re gonna get with these nfcs in the next few months at an.

[00:14:27] Angela: We see, we’ll see. Um, I like this one. They’re stuck everywhere. I just, yeah,

[00:14:33] Cheryl: exactly. And I’ll be all over the house. I’ll be all over in. In fact, if, if anyone does wanna have a little look to see how creative you can be, go to TikTok and put yes.

[00:14:43] Cheryl: The N FFC in and, uh, yeah, you can be really, really, there’s lots of videos on there of how, how creative you can be. Yeah. But this one, I like loyal loyalty programs. So again, probably like. What potentially Kathy could be doing with her [00:15:00] necklaces and bracelets. Yeah. You know, what’s gonna bring them back?

[00:15:03] Cheryl: What’s gonna make, I mean, these are, they say what? You don’t need a, is it? You don’t need a thousand fans. You need a hundred or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. A hundred, a hundred loyal fans. Yes. Is it a thousand? I

[00:15:15] Angela: can’t remember. Yeah, I know what you’re saying though. So to keep them coming back and registering, I think this will make it a lot easier.

[00:15:24] Angela: Like you brought. Yours fault. What was yours? Like 30 quid or something? You brought your business card with the N FFC chip in

[00:15:32] Cheryl: it. It’s 39 pounds. Yeah, but I’ve known, I wouldn’t have

[00:15:35] Angela: bothered. Yeah, but you could. It might be now much more possible, especially with print on demand if you have a retail store or anything like that.

[00:15:45] Angela: Um, even if you’re sending from Etsy, you could put something like this in the packaging with an NFC sticker so that people. Then register with you and you can then send out emotional items. So I think it’s, again, [00:16:00] it’s just a really, really

[00:16:01] Cheryl: good one. A nice idea. Yeah. Yeah. You get them on your newsletter list, even tap it and tap it on your phone and, and register.

[00:16:09] Cheryl: Let us know. You got it. Let us know your thoughts. Let us know some feedback even for reviews.

[00:16:14] Angela: Yeah. Um, another great way particularly sending out products is to use them to provide additional information. So it could be how you use a product, or if Cheryl sent something with, once she launches a website, she could send an N F C sticker that cut, you know, price could constantly use if they wanted to go into educational videos or anything like that.

[00:16:40] Angela: It’s a, it’s another way that you could use.

[00:16:45] Cheryl: Definitely, I mean, you’ve, uh, the whole logging onto wifi when your friend comes over. Have you ever been to an Airbnb when you’ve just tapped the wifi NFC again, not really. I’ve said, oh, that’s cool. I’ve got into someone’s office. Like, [00:17:00] what’s the wifi? Oh, if you just tapped this board here, um, it will automatically will log you in.

[00:17:07] Cheryl: That’s a great

[00:17:07] Angela: little, I know cuz I recently went through a period where I was having problems with my wifi and had about four routers in three months. So every time somebody came right down said to re-log on to the wifi and I, here’s my card again, here’s the card with detail sign. Now I’m just gonna, in fact, what I might do is change the password so I can set up an N F C sticker so when people come around, they have to re-log.

[00:17:31] Angela: That’s

[00:17:32] Cheryl: the next task you

[00:17:33] Angela: So they can just use my N F C sticker. Exactly.

[00:17:37] Cheryl: Exactly. Yeah. I mean, same goes to smart plugs turning on and off devices. I know we’ve, we’ve touched upon that with the whole strainers and locking doors and stuff like that. But if you, you know, if you’re a bit, what’s the word?

[00:17:52] Cheryl: Forgetful.

[00:17:53] Angela: Yeah. But just makes it easier if you sort of, And leaving the house and you just [00:18:00] use it to go right, turn everything off. That needs to be off. I don’t need to go around and check everything, just turn everything off. That needs to be turned off. And I think also using it in your house for just day-to-day things because they are so cheap.

[00:18:14] Angela: You just go onto Amazon. And there’s so many sort of different type shapes, colors that you combine them. And if you’re thinking about using in, in your business, a great way to start to get used to them and understand how you set them up is to use them in your home. So, you know, and even the fun things like getting into your car and having it have an N F C sticker in your car that you do to play your favorite podcast like us.

[00:18:43] Angela: You know, program them. So you immediately listen to us straight away when you get, yeah, that’d be great. Great

[00:18:49] Cheryl: idea.

[00:18:53] Cheryl: Uh, well with medicine as well, that’s watching my dad put together [00:19:00] seven tablets a day or anything like that and making sure that you’ve. Done that. Yeah. Um, and taking your

[00:19:07] Angela: meds. Yeah. My does got a very specific eyedrops thing as that the, you can only, the block will only last four weeks. It has to sit in a bottle.

[00:19:16] Angela: So for something like that, or ordering when I have to order the medicine, I’m a, a really bad, uh, I keep reminding myself when I get the tablets ready and then I forget. So it goes to the point where it’s only got two tablets left and I’m like, oh my God, I should have ordered it. So just the minute you open a new packet of tablets and scan the N F C sticker to say, remind me in 28 days.

[00:19:41] Angela: Perfect. Two, or you could even automate it. So in 28 days, send this email to get repeat prescription. Definitely. We’re really getting clever bed.

[00:19:53] Cheryl: No, that that, the email could be already written out and it exactly could win and sent, yeah.

[00:19:58] Angela: It’s very good. Yeah. [00:20:00] So, and I’m sure there’s a lot of people listening cuz my problem is I’m not, I’m not very brilliant with processes.

[00:20:06] Angela: I, I can see the end result of the process. I can’t break it down very well, but there will be some people who are very clever with it that will be able to really automate their lives. Yeah. Completely. So,

[00:20:19] Cheryl: We think this brilliantly shows the gradual EV evolution of technology and how gently you can start to apply web three elements into your home and brand.

[00:20:29] Cheryl: We hope that you’ve enjoyed this episode. Join us next week as we continue our journey into the Metaverse. Bye for now.
